In Progress...

Senior Thesis I
Clearly, this year's work load has done wonders for me updating in a timely fashion. Here are some highlights from last semester. I started doing a bunch of mixed media work using pastel over ink wash. It seemed like an awesome idea and I got a lot of positive feedback on them, but then I remembered how much I dislike both working in both of those mediums. And so the prodigal child returned to charcoal.

figure sculpture studies

Some of the warm-up drawings done for the same class as the sculptures in the previous entry. Not surprisingly, the sculpture room was not equipped with easels and I, being the genius that I am, decided to get the largest pad of newsprint that I could find; which resulted in horribly stretched out figures. These are some of the least wonked out ones. Poses ranged from 1-5 minutes.

New Website!!!
http://sarahrizzo.com/
I had to make a portfolio site for a class and figured I might as well make something that I'd actually use. I even designed my business card AND letterhead. Like a professional.
Two more weeks left of the semester; let the stress-fest begin! On the off-chance that I make it out alive, be prepared for an update on all the gesture drawings from my sculpture class I've yet to post.

Sculpture Studies

After spending the last two years desperately avoiding my 3D studio requirements for MAT, I've finally had to suck it up and do it now that graduation is only two semesters away (oh my god I am not ready for the Real World yet). I'm currently in a figure sculpture class since it seemed like the one class I'd be least likely to fail miserably at. I feel I should mention at this point that I have no depth perception. Yes, really. So you can understand my reluctance towards taking any sculpture classes. It's definitely been challenging, but less of a nightmare than what ceramics had been. Also, there is no homework.
Anyway, I think I'm finally getting figuring out how to handle the clay. These are my two most recent studies that kinda sorta look like they were modeled from humans.

I was making a powerpoint of my portfolio for a class when I realized I never posted this painting from the end of last semester.
In other news, spring semester has started and the first week of classes is behind us. I don't know if I'm going to make it out alive this time. It's really sad because my schedule isn't even as studio-heavy as last semester was. Ugh. Here's to hoping my ass doesn't get served too badly.

My camera went missing a few days ago and has finally been recovered. In the midst of much rejoicing, I figured an update was due. Obviously this is a work in progress; I've been meaning to start keeping records of my process, but mostly I just really liked the under painting and wanted an image of it in case I end up accidentally killing it when I start adding color.

WIP

School has resumed and I am taking junior independent for six credits this semester. Basically, I am going to be living in my studio from now until December. I started this piece the other day and it is still very much in the rough stages, but I haven't posted anything in a while, so here you go. This photo is atrocious, I am so sorry. I left my tripod back in NY, I forgot to clean the lense, this is at a terrible angle in bad lighting, etc. Lament lament lament.
Anyway, I am hoping to keep better records of my work in a more timely manner. In theory this would mean more regular updates, but I'm sure you can sense a trend in these posts already.

End of semester dump

Well, so much for more consistent posting. I swear, I am still working though! Admittedly it took the better part of a month BUT! there is a painting in progress. Will get around to posting some images of that later. Maybe. I do have a bunch of drawings from the end of this past semester. Those will probably go up in the mean time.
In other news, I have this painting and the four from the previous post in a show! If you happen to be in the Poughkeepsie area, check it out at the Twisted Soul restaurant. Very good food, plus my glorious work in person. Also the work of some other people who aren't too shabby but really mine are the main highlight :) Oh god I hope people buy something, I really need to get more paint D:

recent paintings

Some recent pieces from a series. I don't think I've really talked about the independent work I've been doing in my two painting classes yet. The two paintings in the last post were some of the first in this series. They started out being based on images I found of plant stem and cell structure, though they have since become these more automatic biomorphic forms. I am really excited about this project and the results so far, which generally never happens. It scares me a little in a way. Still, it's been pretty exhilarating. Let's hope I can keep it up through finals
