recent paintings

Some recent pieces from a series. I don't think I've really talked about the independent work I've been doing in my two painting classes yet. The two paintings in the last post were some of the first in this series. They started out being based on images I found of plant stem and cell structure, though they have since become these more automatic biomorphic forms. I am really excited about this project and the results so far, which generally never happens. It scares me a little in a way. Still, it's been pretty exhilarating. Let's hope I can keep it up through finals

Final piece for Color Abstraction that I reworked over winter break and now looks completely different from when I handed it in.

From last semester....

Collage paintings from last semester's Color Abstraction class. These two are actually a diptych, but I cannot for the life of me find the image I had of them side by side as they're meant to be presented. I am convinced that my computer secretly likes to eat my files to spite me for dropping it last year. Anyway, there were pretty much the only paintings that I actually liked, while the rest will be stashed away in the basement so that I may pretend that they do not exist. These were painted on stretched mens' button down shirts, which seemed like an awesome idea at first, but quickly became a hellish nightmare that proved that PVA sizing is total crap to work with.

Final piece for my lithography class. It may have taken me a whole freaking semester, but I think I finally stopped sucking less so from when I started. This was done on an aluminum ball grain plate rather than a stone and I somehow managed to not only process it properly but also print it on the first go without anything horrific happening! Success! Granted Brian was there to push me aside and correct any fatal mistakes I might have potentially made, but let's ignore that for a moment and relish in the fact I finally have a decent set of prints. I also realized have no idea what teeth really look like. Details, details...

The lighting in my room is so terrible, I probably should have waiting until tomorrow when there's daylight. I probably also should have chosen a print that's actually apart of the final edition and not covered in fingerprints :\
